The Penguin has had a long and somewhat illustrious career. It began in 2003 as a music website known as Asbury Music. The site was widely read among musicians, music fans, and music industry folks throughout the Jersey Shore and received a few Asbury Music Awards. After a few years, the site became an online radio station where it stayed until 2019.
We've had several names over the years from Asbury Music to Upstage Radio to The Penguin Rocks and back again. Whatever the name, our little bass guitar playing penguin remained the logo.
In 2019, we finally gave up being a 24/7 online radio station and moved to a site promoting radio programs and music news/features. Throughout the day, the station rotates between our "General Mix" (which is our monthly playlist of new music plus a blend of indie artists, Americana, classic rock, 80s rock, covers, and Jersey artists) to radio shows from around the globe. We try to stagger each show at various times throughout the week so music fans everywhere can tune in at a good time for them. Since all of these shows reside at MixCloud.com, you can sign up to follow the shows you like and get notified whenever a new show is uploaded.
The website publishes music news from around the globe and highlights feature articles and columns from New Jersey Stage. If you would like to send us music, press releases, or simply want to contact us you can email us at info@thepenguinrocks.com.
We hope you enjoy the site!
